The Sunday – Classic Disco Show With Old Father Hubbard
Old Father Hubbard (aka David Hubbard)
I have enjoyed visiting the RRiver since 1986, and have been lucky enough to move up here 6 years ago. I love this area in spite of the sometimes treacherous weather. It has become my home amongst the beautiful Redwoods.
I grew up listening to the radio in Cincinnati. I started listening as soon as I realized that radio was free music. Shows like “American Bandstand”, “American Top 40”, and “Rock-Roll and Remember” radio shows helped teach me about music. And more contemporary DJs, like Dave Morey of KFOG in San Francisco hosting the long-term show 10@10, had also taught me a great deal about appreciating music.
There was a time when I worked at the local grocery store in Cincinnati, and made $80/week. I spent about $75 of it on records. My collection is full of original 12” singles, and rare remix versions of the music of the day – mostly early 80’s. And they all have been digitized for your comfort. But, don’t mourn the loss of analog; all of the warmth has been retained.
Over the years, I have extended my collection to include all types and genres of music following two caveats: don’t yell at me, and don’t curse at me. Regarding that rule, I enjoy all kinds of music. Now my music collection has grown to well over 25,000 songs.
All music is sacred to me. One choral director told us that, “There is an ineffable quality to music that soothes”. In my life, music provides a consistent, comforting ambiance for any kind of mood.
In my show, I will endeavor to always choose interesting and eclectic, and positive choices for our dance party. So, put on your dancin’ shoes, leave your cares at the door, and let’s have some fun!!
